Acanthus spinosus is robust, architectural plant with exotic-looking foliage and erect spikes of equally exotic blooms. They may look tropical, but Acanthus is fully hardy in the UK, and enjoys sun or shade on a well-drained soil, is very drought tolerant and can tolerate exposed conditions.
Acanthus are also known as Bear’s Breech, they make an excellent herbaceous perennial for mixed borders, growing up to 1.2m (3.9′) and filling gaps easily. The spiny, purple-tinged flowers appear from late spring to summer. An easy to maintain border plant that comes back year after year. Height: 1.2m (3.9′). Spread: 1m (39″).
Plant height and spread is seasonal therefore we list by pot size rather than a defined plant size. The height and spread of the plant delivered will vary depending on the season, meaning arrival images are an indication only.
