One of the best of the ‘Snakebark’ maples, Acer davidii is prized for the strange, snake-like pattern of its stunning bark and its large, handsome foliage which develops rich autumnal hues.
It forms a small deciduous tree, often multi-stemmed, with a spreading crown of long, arching branches. On mature specimens, the bark bears beautiful creamy serpentine stripes against an olive-green background and its intricate patterns invite close inspection. Coral-red stems hold large, handsome leaves that are entire or lobed and come to a fine point. In spring, pendulous yellow flowers droop from the branches. The foliage takes centre stage in autumn, turning yellow, orange and red alongside pink-winged fruits. RHS Award of Garden Merit. Height 5m (16ft). Spread: 4m (13ft).
Plant height and spread is seasonal therefore we list by pot size rather than a defined plant size. The height and spread of the plant delivered will vary depending on the season, meaning arrival images are an indication only.
