Compact in its growth habit, the field maple is an ideal candidate for a native hedge, its large leaves soon form an effective screen and windbreak and it will be greatly appreciated by nesting birds in the spring and early summer. Acer campestre takes well to clipping regularly too and the winged fruits in autumn will appear as the leaves change colour to yellows and reds for additional interest. Height: 12m (39′). Spread: 8m (26′). Planting Distance: 30 – 45 cm (12″ – 18″). (4 plants per metre for a single line hedge).
