Astilbe is a damp-loving, shade-tolerant perennial that is perfect for providing late summer colour in moist sites, even growing happily as a marginal in a pond or stream where its feet remain permanently wet. In late summer, elegant feathery plumes of flowers are produced above clumps of divided leaves. The flowers are highly attractive to pollinating insects making Astilbe an excellent choice for a wildlife bog garden. The feathery flowers are also superb as fresh or dried cut flowers.
