Oenothera fruticosa ‘Youngii’ isn’t bashful like many other Evening Primroses which have earned their common name due to their habit of opening their flowers in the evening. ‘Youngii’ is happy to greet you with its cheery, bright yellow blooms during the day time. Opening from red-tinged buds, the saucer-shaped flowers are 1 inch wide and brimming with sugary nectar which makes them excellent candidates for a wildlife garden. The flowers spiral around upright stems above an evergreen rosette of narrow basal leaves which turn reddish in the autumn.
‘Youngii’ is native to dry woodlands, grasslands and rocky landscapes in North America, and so like other Oenotheras, it enjoys loose, fast-draining soils. Dotted about in borders it forms an effortlessly natural and meadowy look. It associates beautifully with Salvia nemorosa ‘Caradonna’, both plants coping well with drought conditions once established. Height: 60cm (24”). Spread: 40cm (16”).
Plant height and spread is seasonal therefore we list by pot size rather than a defined plant size. The height and spread of the plant delivered will vary depending on the season, meaning arrival images are an indication only.
