This hardy, deciduous conifer which is ideal for planting in a wet, boggy area or alongside a stream or riverbank. Swamp Cypress will produce aerial roots at water level, so waterlogged soils will not be a problem. Taxodium distichum is a shade loving tree, which is capable of attaining great heights, with growth of up to 1m (39″) per year. Ultimately it will form a conical shaped tree which becomes more columnar with age. This majestic conifer has striking red-brown bark and branches. The deciduous foliage turns an attractive rusty-brown in autumn, accompanied by roundish red brown cones. Height: 20m (65′). Spread: to 12m (39′).
